On Dial-Up, eh? I feel your pain.

Live entertainment will be provided by Rudy Young. Rudy has been writing and playing music since the age of fourteen, over the years touring from Key West to New Orleans playing the Blues under the name Lightnin' Harpo. Rudy has produced two albums, Rudy Young, Boogie & Ballads, and Home Blues. (Click photo for Rudy Young's home page.)

All Alachua Astronomy Club and Greater Ocala Astronomy Club members and their guests are invited.

We will provide burgers and dogs (vegie, too), condiments, bottled water, utensils and other paper supplies. We ask a modest cover charge of $3 per person to help offset expenses.

Your potluck dishes are most welcomed!

Starts around 7pm, but come early to set-up, play frisbee, or just get acquainted.

Star Party Etiquette or Lack Thereof

Star-B-Q was founded on the principle that not all astronomers are created equal and that all Saturday's in June will be cloudy, so come check out a nearly "etiquette-less" star party . . .

  • Look for signs indicating the use of parking lights only. Children are prohibited from running with flashlights (and scissors, of course).
  • Don’t be afraid to ask to look through a telescope. Don't be afraid of astronomers, except at Board meetings.
  • Children must act as adults, but adults may act as children in moderation.*
  • Restrooms, water and electric (rsvp) available. No generators please.
  • No unleashed pets unless they are appetizers for the rottweilers and pitbull.
  • Abandoned food should not be presumed up for grabs, unless nobody is looking.*
  • Correction to above rule: all food is up for grabs at Star-B-Q.
  • Alcohol is permitted. However, Rotten Ralph's punch may have adverse affects on collimation, star-splitting and the ability to drive farm equipment. Bring a sleeping bag, not an appetite for destruction.
  • Owners of LX-200's (especially Scott) must offer coffee to passers-by who mistake the noises for that of a coffee grinder.*
  • Management reserves the right to evict anyone, and call next game on billiards without warning.

Note: the aforementioned rules apply only to Star-B-Q. If you participate at other star parties, please don't mention us by name.

    * Rule adapted from Bill Arnet and Jay Freeman.
