Gold Head Branch State Park
(Click image for Gold Head Park Home Page)Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park is located in northeast Florida midway between Gainesville and Jacksonville, 6 miles north of Keystone Heights on S.R. 21. Driving time from Gainesville or Jacksonville is about a one-hour. Our observing area will be the Boat Ramp at Big Lake Johnson.
Cabin 114 (a.k.a. "Sweetgum") is located about 100 feet from the observing site. This cabin has been reserved as a refuge from the mosquitos (or the cold whichever may be the case) and for the restroom until 2 a.m. or later. Family members not engaged at the star party can socialize here under low-light conditions bring a deck of cards or your favorite board game.

Recommended Directions From Gainesville (Distance abt. 30 mi., Driving Time abt. 1 hr.)
- Take SR 26 East from Gainesville to Melrose
- Turn Left in Melrose (to head North) on SR 21
- Take SR 21 North to Keystone Heights (SR 100, abt. 7 mi.)
- Continue on SR 21 through Keystone Heights for approx. 6 miles
- The entrance to Gold Head Branch State Park is on the Right side of SR21
Recommended Directions From Jacksonville (Orange Park Distance abt. 30 mi., Driving Time abt. 50 min.)
- Take SR 21 South from Orange Park to Melrose (abt. 12 mi.)
- Continue on SR 21 through Middleburg
- Continue on SR 21 to Gold Head Branch State Park (abt. 18 mi.)
- The entrance to Gold Head Branch State Park is on the Left side of SR 21
