FOR SALE
Tele Vue APO 101 mm Refractor
The Villages Astronomy Club (Ocala) has a high-end, 4-in. APO refractor telescope they wish to sell. The telescope was willed to the club about five years ago. The scope has been in the possession of a number of club members. No historical documents or manuals are available.
The selling price, which includes an altazimuth mounting and many accessories, is being offered at a very favorable price ($1,600.00 OBO). To purchase these items new today would probably cost well over $5,000 although, of course, you would be getting updated, new equipment.
The condition of the equipment is unknown. However the instrument and mount were made by TeleVue, a company that produces some of the finest APO refractors. Interested parties should contact the seller for more information.
As a favor to our neighboring club, The Alachua Astronomy Club, Inc. is listing information about the sale including some notes about the optical design.
You can see pictures of this instrument and accessories below.

About the TeleVue 101:
First introduced by TeleVue in 1998, the 101 is a fifth generation, patented four element apochromatic refractor design based on the "Petzval" concept. A 101 mm two element air spaced objective lens at the front of the telescope passes the light through to a second doublet lens positioned at the rear of the telescope and before the focuser. The doublet lens group functions to 1) reduce the effective focal length, and 2) reduce or eliminate curvature of field.
The telescope is nearly free of false color and produces clear, sharp high contrast images with a wide, flat-field in a very low focal ratio (f/5.4). The objective's four air to glass surfaces have a multi-layer anti-reflection coatings. Low power eyepieces with wide apparent fields can produce telescope views four to nearly five degrees across. The lens is so well figured that it is also capable of producing good images at high magnifications (with a good telenegative "Barlow" or "Powermate") than would be expected for a 4-inch telescope.
The 101 was discontinued April 2001 and replaced in August 2001 by the sixth generation, NP101.
