Full Moons for 1994: No Baker’s Dozen

by Howard L. Cohen

Every few years full moons come in a baker's dozen. To have thirteen full moons, one of the twelve calendar months must have two. This latter full moon is now commonly called a blue moon. Most people have also heard of the harvest moon and even the hunter's moon, since astronomy textbooks and almanacs frequently mentioned this term. (Do you know why?)

Although 1994 will not be a blue moon year, all twelve ordinary full moons of the year carry names christened by various peoples. Here is a set you may find interesting.* If not, why not try making up your own scheme!

(This table also gives dates of 1994 full moons including last December's - a baker's dozen although there is no blue moon.)
